Remember we had reported recently that Priyanka Chopra had shot for Rose Audio Visual's India Calling. It looks like that brush with television was not enough for the leggy lass. She is all set to make an appearance once again on the same channel Star One for Siddharth Basu’s game show, Heartbeat.

An out and out game show, Heartbeat has quite a unique concept. Participants have to answer questions and their time is monitored by their heartbeat. So if the contestants are nervous or excited, they can’t let their heart know!

The show has been talked about extensively due to its impressive line up of celebrities. Priyanka enjoyed herself thoroughly on the show. Apart from the actress, other celebrities on the show include Neha Dhupia, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Varun Badola, Ajay Jadeja and Vinod Kambli. The show begins on May 1st. While Varun Badola will be seen in the first episode, Priyanka’s episode will be aired in the second week of May.

Film maker Vipul Shah is currently in the process of finalizing the cast for his next film, Namaste London. The latest update is that Shah is in talks with Sean Connery’s son for a role in the film. When we spoke to him, he told us that nothing has been confirmed yet. “Things abroad work differently. There are various agents in London who we are in talks with. We are looking at the option of casting Sean Connery’s son, Jason. I am going to London on the 30th of April. Only the audition will determine whether or not Jason is suitable for the role.”

The actors who have already been signed on for the project include Akshay Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Upen Patel. So who will we see opposite Upen? “We are still looking for a suitable actress opposite Upen. It will be an Indian actress,” said the film maker.

A romantic film, it promises to be technically up-to-the mark as well. Shah hopes to finalize all his technicians during his visit to London. The music will be composed by Himesh Reshammiya.

After the official announcement that I.I.F.A. will be held in Dubai this year, the question uppermost on everyone’s lips is:
Which biggie will be premiered at I.I.F.A. this year?

I.I.F.A. has always hosted the world premiere of a keenly-anticipated film year after year. From LAGAAN to YUVA to ARMAAN

to PARINEETA, the global premiere of the film is a looked-forward-to event. And if the grapevine is to be believed, Rakesh

Roshan’s KRRISH might be premiered in Dubai this year.

“Nothing is confirmed,” Sabbas Joseph, one of the organizers of I.I.F.A., enlightens me, “We haven’t penciled on any film yet.

Of course, we are in talks with various producers, but the official announcement will be made once we finalize the film.”

However, the creator of KRRISH, Rakesh Roshan, feels that his film wouldn’t be ready by mid-June, so as to have its premiere

at I.I.F.A. “Since I.I.F.A. is taking place from June 14-16, I will have to ready the film much before the scheduled dates, which

is next to impossible. As a result, KRRISH will not be premiered at I.I.F.A. for this reason,” Roshan Sr. informs me.

Nonetheless, Roshan Sr. is firm on a June release for the film. “KRRISH is definitely arriving in June, that’s for sure. But I’ve yet

to confirm the date,” he adds.

Suneel Darshan is going global! He has decided to put up a stall at the famed Cannes Film Festival and showcase his

catalogue to the world market.

“A majority of my films have done remarkable business in Britain, South Africa, Gulf and Fiji. If the films can prove lucrative

business propositions in these countries, I am sure the rest of the world will embrace my cinema with equal enthusiasm. In

fact, the success of my last few films in the Overseas territory has propelled me to take my catalogue to Cannes and explore

territories that were hitherto unexplored by Hindi film-makers,” Suneel reveals.

Suneel’s critics strongly feel that his films tackle traditional Indian themes, for which he has received a fair amount of criticism

too. “Criticism doesn’t bother me. I am going to Cannes to promote my cinema. With the world slowly waking up to Bollywood,

I want to give them a taste of traditional Indian cinema. What’s the harm if I do so?” he asks.

After making a series of films with Akshay Kumar, Suneel is now promoting Bobby Deol in a big way. “You’ll agree that

Bobby’s market in the Overseas territory was quite low before BARSAAT and DOSTI. These two films changed Bobby’s

fortunes, so much so that a HUMKO TUMSE PYAAR HAI has also enjoyed a good run in U.K., faring much better than films

like FAMILY, ZINDA and even TAXI NO. 9211. Bobby’s work has also caught the attention of Aditya Chopra, who has also

signed him for one of his forthcoming films,” he states.

There’s talk that Suneel has once again roped in Bobby for his next venture, which will witness the actor portraying a negative

role. Co-starring in the film is the new kid on the block, Upen Patel. “I wouldn’t like to reveal much at this juncture since I am

keen to announce the film with a bang,” Suneel doesn’t deny the development. The film is expected to roll in June. Watch this

space!

Off lately the Cannes Film Festival has been making much news in India. Indian filmmakers seem to have taken the festival as

an ideal platform to promote and display their films to the global audience. So after Vishal Bharadwaj’s adaptation of Othello

Media and entertainment giant UTV will yet again be at the forthcoming Cannes Film Festival with the home-production Rang

De Basanti being the lead product to showcase. The International Distribution Division of the organization is organizing two

market screenings of Rang De Basanti for key trade and media.

We recently came across some photographs of Preity Zinta doing some heavy duty stunts. Upon further enquiry it was

discovered that the actress was shooting a commercial for a shampoo brand she endorses. The ad was being shot in

Bangkok, where she was for three days.

Preity fans sure will see her in a whole new avatar. She was seen dressed in a silver body suit. She plays a warrior woman and

will do a lot of action sequences. Directed by Atipat Kamolpaet, the entire ad was shot in front of a blue screen. The reason

being that, a lot of special effects and animation will be used. It was quite a challenge because Preity was required to emote,

based on her imagination of what is happening around her.

Preity was quite excited about the entire concept. She even gave her inputs so that the ad would be more action packed.

Arya joins Abhishek, Ash

By Taran Adarsh, April 22, 2006 - 02:08 IST

Raj Babbar’s son Arya Babbar, who had a high profile launch in Raj Kanwar’s AB KE BARAS opposite Amrita Rao, has been signed to play the third vital lead in Mani Ratnam’s GURU. Abhishek Bachchan and Madhavan head the cast, while the search for the third lead was a big suspense. The role is that of Ash’s brother in the film, who happens to be Abhishek’s best friend as well.

Is the role substantial enough? “Yes, it’s a challenging role,” Arya, who is currently shooting for the film in Karnataka, called to say. “More than anything else, it’s an honor to work with Mani Sir. To be recognized by someone like Mani Sir and being cast in his film is no small achievement,” he sounds excited.

He continues in the same breath, “The best part is, I never bagged GURU through any source or contact. I actually auditioned for the role before it fell in my lap.”

It’s the first time that Abhishek and Arya are working together in a film project, although the two families have known each for a long time now. “Abhishek is a warm guy. Extremely helpful. The camaraderie is like brothers,” he adds.

Things seem to be picking up for Arya on the career front. “I have just finished shooting for a Hollywood film called THE PARTITION. I portray a negative role in this film, which looks at the partition of India in 1947,” he divulges. Co-starring with Arya in this film are Neve Campbell [WILD THINGS, THREE TO TANGO] and Jimi Mistry [THE GURU].

Music Review - Alag

Music Review - Alag

By Joginder Tuteja, April 25, 2006 - 14:03 IST

'Alag' is one of those rare albums that have hit the stands without much pre-release publicity of songs happening on the small screen. Also there has not been much hype and hoopla behind the music release which is a rarity for a movie with decent credentials. A Subi Samuel production, 'Alag' is touted to be a 'truly different' movie that comes from Ashu Y. Trikha who has earlier directed 'Deewanapan' and 'Sheesha'. After 'Deewanapan', the director repeats Dia Mirza to star opposite 'Popcorn Khao Mast Ho Jayo' hero Akshay Kapoor in this adventure-drama film! Aadesh Srivastava, who has recently come up with a decent 'Rehguzar – The Road To Destiny' is the composer at the helm while Rahul Seth and Nusrat Badr write. Surprisingly the lyricists have not been credited for their individual contribution to the songs which make one wonder if the two have jointly written all the tracks, though it seems unlikely!

Title song 'Sabse Alag' comes at the very beginning of the album and as soon as it starts you are sure to have a soulful outing. A smooth and sober track that moves at an extremely slow pace and makes you hear it along carefully, it helps in establishing the character played by the lead protagonist and how he and his world are completely different from the rest if the mankind. This appears to be the promotional number that features the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal, Bobby Deol, Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Bipasha Basu, Sushmita Sen and Preity Zinta and would be seen on the small screen soon. The track comes in two versions, first where husband wife pair of Kunal Ganjawala and Gayatri Ganjawala come together with Shaan, Hemachandra and Nihira Joshi and later when Kunal renders a solo. A fine haunting number to kick start the album, it should help the film's promotion but isn't of the kind that one sings or hums along the town!

When there are singers like Shaan and Vasundara Das and the song's title goes as 'Hai Junoon', you expect a foot tapping dance number. That's exactly the case with Shaan crooning for the character who questions the world about what is wrong if he is 'alag' i.e. 'different' from the rest! Also the man is now passionate about living life after finding his love. The track sounds more like an Indi-pop song rather than a conventional Bollywood number and is more suited for a dance floor/club outing. The song falls in above average category but is not the kind that could take a nation by the storm. As expected, DJ Suketu adds on further zing to the remix version and gives the song a chance to find a place in the Top 10 charts on the basis of its choreography and picturization that should help it gain some eye balls!

It's as 'tapori' as it get with the arrival of 'Apun Ki Toli' and there is just one term to describe the number – "Forgettable"! A 'basti' number with terms like 'bindaas', 'dhinchaak', 'shaanpatti', 'haiyya-balle balle', 'lagey raho' etc., it takes you back in time to the 80s and that itself is not a pleasant feel to have. Shaan, Kailash Kher, Aadesh Shrivastav and Vasundara Das are simply wasted in the number. The last time when one felt so repulsive while hearing a track of this genre was in small time flick 'Praan Jaaye Par Shaan Na Jaaye' that had music by Daboo Malik and Nitin Raikwar!

Krishna does the 'alaap' for 'Saanjh Ki Pighalti' that makes you wonder that when Aadesh can make a song like this then why did he really have to come up with something like 'Apun Ki Toli' earlier? A 'raga' based number sung by newcomer Ujjaini with Anand Sharma's voice in the background, it has a poetic feel and is track that would have required some real hard work before its final cut would have been out. A song that has a peaceful effect on you while it is being played, it is one of the better tracks composed by Aadesh in recent times.

Ujjaini and Hemachandra do 'aalap' for the 'The Soul of Alag' that should be a part of the film's background score. A full length theme score that comes with some variation in it, it also has shades of classical touch to it.

To sum it up, the musical score of 'Alag' doesn't have a single number that one could take home and sing along. At most a couple of numbers can be heard and enjoyed to an extent but there is none that makes you rush to the nearest neighborhood music store.

Bride and Prejudice had a mega release in India. However Mistress of Spices coming from the same team releases this week in India minus the extra fanfare. Writer-turned-director Paul Mayeda Berges explains the reasons behind the low-key release of the film and also expresses his conviction in the content of the film. Apart from that he also talks of co-writer and wife Gurinder Chadha (director of Bend it like Beckhem and Bride and Prejudice) in high regard.

IndiaFM presents and exclusive conversation with the foreign filmmaker who thinks Indian

After writing 3 films, was direction the obvious step?

I had directed documentaries and short films in the past so I was always excited to direct a feature. Because I'd been writing and directing the 2nd Unit on all of the previous projects with Gurinder, I felt fortunate to have learned so much from Gurinder. It's true that we are married, but aside from that she is a great director who I truly admire and respect artistically.

It's true that Gurinder and I are married, but aside from that she is a great director who I truly admire and respect artistically.

Mistress of Spices is based on the novel by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. How did you zero in on the subject?

I lived in San Francisco for many years so when I first read Chitra's book I thought she captured the immigrant experience in the Bay Area beautifully and with a touch of magic that was completely fresh. San Francisco is a vibrant city where cultures are always intersecting and I thought the world of the spices and the characters were very rich. I loved the notion of the spices representing tradition and all the things that we pass on culturally through generations. Gurinder and I stayed with Chitra in her home when we were first adapting the novel so I'm thrilled that Chitra is so happy with the finished film.

Which of these reasons made you choose Aishwarya Rai for the film
a.) the working rapport formed due to Bride and Prejudice
b.) because she was a perfect fit for the character
c.) to attract in the global audience, or
d.) because Aishwarya is a fabulous actress

All of the above! I spent a lot of time with Ash when we were making Bride & Prejudice and when she read the script of Mistress of Spices I was thrilled with her response. She got the character of TILO right away and really connected with her. I'm also pleased that Ash really loves the film because I think it's one of her finest performances - she shows off layers to herself as an actress that people haven't seen before. In terms of the global audience, Gurinder and I always make films for international audiences because that's who we are. With Mistress I think people from all over the world can relate to the film because we all have traditions and values that we hold dear and yet as individuals we also want to be open to the new worlds around us.

I'm pleased that Ash really loves the film because I think it's one of her finest performances - she shows off layers to herself as an actress that people haven't seen before.

Did wife Gurinder Chadha, who also is the co-writer of the film, had some tips and guidance to give to you considering she has directed so many films earlier?

It absolutely does because those cultural exchanges are what really interest me. I love that the customers in the spice shop are so diverse - Punjabi, Bengali, Kashmiri, Indian American, African American, Native American, etc. It's what makes the small world we're living in right now so interesting. I hope that audiences come away from the film remembering how similar we all are, we all have the same desires and we all have traditions that we value. If we remember that then we can no longer look at someone else as 'different'.

Tell us something about Dylan MacDermott

Women love Dylan!!! He's an incredible actor but the first thing women always say when they come out of the film is that he's such a hottie! The first time that Dylan and Ash met and started rehearsing I could see that they had great chemistry and their romance would sizzle on screen. I remember on the first day of shooting Dylan came on set and watched Ash filming a Close-Up. He looked at me and said, wow she's really electric on camera, I'm gonna have to raise my game to share the screen with her.

On the first day of shooting Dylan looked at me and said 'Ash is really electric on camera, I'm gonna have to raise my game to share the screen with her'

Apart from Aishwarya, who do you think has an interesting character in the film?

I like that the cast is so international and multi-generational. Nitin Ganatra, Mr. Kohli from Bride & Prejudice, plays a Kashmiri cab driver. The great Anupam Kher plays a Bengali grandfather who fears he's losing his very Indian American grand-daughter, Padma Lakshmi, to America. Zohra Seghal, who is 94-years-old now, plays the First Mother who teaches TILO about the power of spices. Ayesha Dharker plays a newcomer to America who finds unexpected love. And for fans of the TV series LOST, Adewale Agbaje plays a martial arts instructor who's learning to cook Indian food. Adewale is a brilliant Black British actor who will be in the 2nd series of LOST with our old friend Naveen Andrews.

Tell us something about the music of the film

The composer Craig Pruess has done some amazing music for the film because the challenge for us was using the music to make the spices come alive as real characters. Each spice has its own instrument and that is one of the ways they communicate with TILO. Craig's done a beautiful job and there is also one great song by Bally Sagoo, because Gurinder can't be involved in any films without using some music by Bally!

Each spice has its own musical instrument and that is one of the ways they communicate with TILO.

Why the Indian release is kept so low-key?

I wouldn't call it low-key; we just deliberately wanted this to be a film that audiences discover. Since it's a unique film with a different style it's nice to let it build for audiences through word-of-mouth. That's what happened with Bend it like Beckham. Otherwise the danger in over-hyping something too early is that everyone has different expectations. This is a romantic, sensual fable that offers viewers something new. In the UK I'm thrilled with the responses we've been receiving from audiences - we've done lots of Q & A discussions after screenings where people have said they've never seen anything like it, they've appreciated the magical world the film takes you into.

I wouldn't call the Indian release low-key; we just deliberately wanted this to be a film that audiences discover. Otherwise the danger in over-hyping something too early is that everyone has different expectations

Bend it Like Beckhem was Indianized as 'Football Shootball Hai Rabba', Bride and Prejudice was called 'Balle Balle, Amritsar To LA '… if the Hindi dubbed version of Mistress of Spices has to come out what will it be named as?

We didn't want to make a Hindi dubbed version for the theatrical release because sometimes a dubbed film loses too much in translation - the nuances disappear. This is a film that should be enjoyed in its original language.

How satisfying do you thing your debut as a director has been?

I've had a dream debut because I've worked with such a talented cast & crew on a project that I've been passionate about for years. Santosh Sivan is a national treasure - he's one of the best cinematographers in the world and we had a brilliant time creating the look, tone and color of the film. Also it's incredibly satisfying that Gurinder, Chitra and Ash are so pleased with the film - it feels great.

Does Indian cinema interest you? What in different about Bollywood?

I love all kinds of Indian cinema and think that India is lucky to have such a vibrant film culture with such a long history. Classic Hindi cinema still inspires me but so does parallel cinema and regional cinema (when I get the chance to see it!). India is lucky to have such a wide range of filmmakers working in varied styles on different canvases - from Mani Ratnam and Santosh Sivan to Karan Johar and Adi Chopra. There's so much talent behind and in front of the camera - it should be appreciated.

Which was the last Hindi film that you liked?

I've missed a lot lately because I've been writing and shooting. I really want to see 'Rang De Basanti' because I heard great things about it. The last Hindi film that really popped out for me was 'Dil Chata Hai' - but like I said I've unfortunately missed a lot of films lately that I'm dying to see - I've got lots of catching up to do!

Tell us a little about your next film 'The Closet'

Gurinder and I have written an English language version of the French comedy 'The Closet', but I'm not sure which film I'll be making next. Gurinder and I have been writing a lot lately and have several projects we're both excited about - they're a mix of films set in the UK, India, and the States. They're all films that we'll both be involved in but you never know the order in which you're going to make them!

Any other films in pipeline either by you or Gurinder Chadha?

We just wrote a script for Paramount Studios adapted from the English novel, 'Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging'. It's a very funny account of 14-year-old girls in England. And of course Gurinder is excited to make DALLAS later this year - she's heading over soon to become a Punjabi cow-girl.

A local court on Friday issued non-bailable warrants against actors Shilpa Shetty and Reema Sen for "posing in an obscene manner" in photographs published in a Tamil eveninger.

A non-bailable warrant has also been issued to the eveninger's editor Murugan.

Judicial Magistrate II Seetharaman had been issuing summons on a petition filed by one Dhakshinamoorthy, an advocate in Madurai from February 15.

The Judge had earlier ordered them to appear on March 10. Subsequent summons also did not elicit any response. The summons were also published in newspapers in Hindi and English.

However, the actresses failed to appear in the court. Hence non-bailable warrants were issued.

The petitioner submitted that the paper had carried "very sexy blow ups and medium blow ups" in its issues on Sundays in December 2005 and January this year.

The petitioner said this was violative of Indecent Representation of Women (prohibition) Act and Young Persons Harmful Publications Act and IPC Sec 292 (sale of obscene books).

Apart from misleading the youth, the pictures would increase violence against women, the petitioner contended. The pictures should be confiscated under the provisions of the Press and Registration of Book Act, 1967, he demanded.

Besides David Dhawan and Priyadarshan, one maker who has an impressive track record as far as comedies go is Indra Kumar. Right from DIL, which had a generous dose of light moments, to MASTI, his last laughathon, Indra Kumar has successfully captured the difficult emotion -- comedy -- on screen. That's precisely why you expect PYARE MOHAN to be as mad, zany and wacky like his previous endeavors.

In terms of genre, PYARE MOHAN falls in the same league as MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI, NO ENTRY and GARAM MASALA. In fact, there's an unwritten rule and unspoken advice when you saunter into a movieplex to watch this genre: Don't wear your thinking caps. Don't ask questions. Throw logic and reasoning out of the window. Just flow with the tide... The mantra is to entertain and the target audience is any moviegoer who is ready to forget logic, sense and judgment for the next two hours.

For any comedy to work, it ought to be embellished with great scenes, loads of wit and humor and also actors who have a flair for comedy. On the surface, PYARE MOHAN has it all: An accomplished director, experienced writers and a cast that has been an integral part of successful comic capers.

But never judge a book by its cover…

Although the characters of the two lead men may sound new for Hindi movie buffs [inspired by the Hollywood film SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL], writers Milap Zaveri and Tushar Hiranandani's clumsy handling of the material sends the film for a toss. The 14 reeler stands on a feeble plot, but what is unpardonable is that there's no meat in the screenplay to keep your attention arrested for those 2.20 hours.

Also, PYARE MOHAN lacks the stamp of a master storyteller. In the past, every Indra Kumar movie had not one or two, but a number of memorable sequences that made you jump with joy. PYARE MOHAN is not only saddled with a frail plot and powerless screenplay, even Indra Kumar's execution is below the mark. In fact, PYARE MOHAN easily ranks amongst his weakest film so far.

In a nutshell, PYARE MOHAN lacks the dil of DIL and the masti of MASTI. Neither does the romance in PYARE MOHAN make your heart go dhak-dhak, nor does the comedy in the film make you its aashiq.

Pyare [Fardeen Khan] is blind, while Mohan [Vivek Oberoi] is deaf. An inseparable duo, the duo were stuntmen in a film company initially, but after having met with an accident on the sets of a film, Pyare loses his vision, while Mohan goes deaf. They now run a gift shop. The sole factor missing in their life is romance; both yearn for a girl-friend. But things change one morning when they accidentally run into two sisters, Preeti [Esha Deol] and Priya [Amrita Rao].

Pyare and Mohan start dreaming of a future with Preeti and Priya. But the sisters, while leaving for Bangkok for a concert, clear the misconception. They tell Pyare and Mohan in clear words that their being physically impaired goes against them. Also, they add, they've always considered them to be mere friends, nothing more.

En route to Bangkok, the aircraft faces turbulent weather. One of the passengers, Tony [Boman Irani], feels that the aircraft is about to crash and makes a confession to a priest [Feroze Irani], who is seated right next to Preeti and Priya. Tony confesses that he's actually the underworld don who had deliberately spread the news of his death so that he could escape to another country.

A few seconds later, the weather turns normal and the guilt-stricken Tony now wants to eliminate the priest since he knows the truth. Tony murders the priest at Bangkok airport itself, but the blame falls on Preeti and Priya. They are charged with murder and imprisoned in a Bangkok prison.

When Pyare and Mohan learn of Preeti and Priya's imprisonment in India, they board the next available flight to Bangkok to rescue them. In the meanwhile, Tony is keen to eliminate Preeti and Priya since he wants to wipe off all clues and witnesses. He instructs his younger brother Tiny [Snehal Dabhi] to execute the task. The next 40 minutes of the film are devoted to Pyare and Mohan escaping with Preeti and Priya and facing the wrath of Tony. In the end, Preeti and Priya realize their folly and walk into Pyare and Mohan's arms.

It's an oft-repeated fact that the screenplay is the lifeline of every film. No film can survive on a couple of gags, punches or even star power. That's the problem with PYARE MOHAN. Soon after the characters are established in the initial reels, the film stagnates. You expect a flurry of activities when Fardeen and Vivek believe that they've found their soulmates. Again, nothing happens. The story inches forward minutes before the intermission, when the girls break the guys' hearts and head for Bangkok.

The post-interval portions are slightly better compared to the first hour, but that's because of a vital chase sequence in the film that can easily be termed as the best part of the enterprise. In fact, that's the only funny moment in the film when you break into laughter. Otherwise, the film tries too hard to make you laugh, but most of the jokes fall flat and fail miserably at evoking mirth.

Another notable scene in the film is in its pre-climax, where Boman Irani and his cronies hurl empty bottles at the lovers. But the climax, when Snehal Dabhi re-emerges on the scene, is a complete compromise from the writing point of view.

Director Indra Kumar is not in his element this time around. While viewing the goings-on, you look at the film in disbelief and wonder, Is this an Indra Kumar directed film? The film lacks the trademark drama his films always boast of. Even the light moments aren't in the league of his earlier films. The writing, as mentioned above, is a sore point. One expected more from the two talented writers primarily because they were in full form in MASTI.

Anu Malik's music is getting repetitive. Barring 'I Love You My Angel', there's not one track in the enterprise you hum on your way out of the auditorium. Even the Trickbaby track, which comes at the end titles, is nothing to rave or rant about. Cinematography [Sunil Patel] is ordinary. The beautiful city of Bangkok hasn't been well exploited. Dialogues [Milap Zaveri] are witty at times, but forgettable at places.

The only actor who stands out is Fardeen Khan. Underplaying his part skillfully, his is the only performance that stays with you even after the film has ended. However, he needs to watch his weight. Also, he looks puffed up in several scenes. Vivek Oberoi hams big time. Even scenes that demand intensity lack fire. He runs through his part mechanically.

The two girls, Esha and Amrita, have not much to do except wear three expressions all through: Throw a frown, radiate happiness and show dejection. Their makeup is also inconsistent. Even the terrific Boman Irani is reduced to being a caricature here. Snehal Dabhi contributes to the sole funny moment in the film [the chase sequence]. Adi Irani and Feroze Irani don't get any scope.

On the whole, PYARE MOHAN is a poor show. Disappointing!

Starring: Vivek Oberoi,Fardeen Khan,Sajid Khan,Boman Irani,Esha Deol,Amrita Rao

Pyare Mohan a healthy entertainer, is based on script by Milap Zaveri and Tushar Hiranandani, who had written Masti.
Pyare (Fardeen Khan) and Mohan (Vivek Oberoi) are brothers who work as policemen at the same station. One is blind while the other is deaf!

Into their lives enter Priya (Amrita Rao) and Preeti (Esha Deol) who fall for their charms. But one day their lives take a turn for the worse when they find out that they are blamed for a crime they did not commit. They have been identified on surveillance cameras as having stolen a very expensive diamond from a showroom. This results in their suspension from the police force.

What starts as a love quest for Pyare and Mohan becomes a life or death gamble for them. Preeti and Priya are on the hit list of a gangster. Now the question is – Can the blind Pyare and the deaf Mohan save their ladyloves from the baddies? 'Pyare Mohan' is being described as a wholesome entertainer. Unlike Indra Kumar's 'Masti', 'Pyare Mohan' doesn’t rely on double entendres that can put off the family audience. The movie’s story is written by Milap Zaveri and Tushar Hiranandani. Although their methods of apprehending criminals resemble those of the Keystone cops - they do manage on occasion to solve crimes diligently. Then all of a sudden their lives take a turn for the worse when they find out that they are being blamed for mistakes they did not commit. Not only that, they have been identified by video-taped evidence of having stolen an expensive diamond from a showroom. Both of them are suspended, charged with theft, and held in a prison cell until the courts decide their fate, leaving the Commissioner of Police, Shyamlal to ponder what went wrong and where.

‘Pyare Mohan’ will hit the theatres on April 21.

The Mistress of Spices’ is an enchanting and sensual fable about the romantic and personal conflicts that face Tilo (Aishwarya Rai), a beautiful young woman, trained in the ancient and magical art of spices. Ordained with special powers to help those that come to her, Tilo can sense people’s problems with a startling ability to see into their past and future.

Tilo works in a small San Francisco store called the ‘SPICE BAZAAR’, where, with the guidance of her spices, she finds the perfect remedy for anyone who walks through her door. For her powers to work, she must obey three simple but strict rules – she must use the spices only to help others, she must not touch another human’s skin and she must never leave her store.

When Doug (Dylan Mcdermott), a handsome, enigmatic architect crashes his Harley Davison outside her San Francisco store, she has to tend to his wounds and her life is changed forever. For the first time Tilo’s own desires are stirred – is there more to life than helping others? Tilo knows the rules and her spices warn her to stay away. But Doug doesn’t have any spices telling him what to do and soon returns with flowers to ask her on a date.

No matter how hard she resists him, his persistence, honesty and friendship draws them closer and closer to each other. When they accidentally touch, another rule is broken and the spices are enraged. The spices are in no mood for either leniency or romance but Tilo is captivated by the force of love and agrees to go on a date leaving her spices behind. The spices begin to punish her – the more she falls in love and defies the rules, the more her customers suffer.

All Tilo wants to do is carry on her work helping others and fall in love as well, but she is forced into a painful dilemma. If she turns her back on her way of life, all the people that she has helped will suffer, but if she doesn’t, she will lose Doug forever!

Tilo must now confront her past, her friends, her desires and ultimately the spices to decide if she can fight for a new life of her choosing or must return to the old one.

It's a known fact that Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are currently in Bagalkot, North Karnataka, shooting for Mani Ratnam's Guru.

The shoot was going smoothly till Ash injured her hand this morning. It is still unclear how the incident took place. The beauty queen turned actress had also created headlines while shooting for Rajkumar Santoshi's Khakee. Even at that time, she had injured her toe and was hospitalized. Co-incidentally, during Mani Ratnam's last Hindi film Yuva, it was Viveik Oberoi who had injured himself. Let's hope that the actress recovers soon enough.
Guru also stars Mallika Sherawat. However, she was not present in Bagalkot as she didn't have any scenes there.

'Hera Pheri' holds a special place in the history of Hindi cinema for number of reasons.

1) It is easily amongst THE BEST 5 comedies of all times
2) It is THE movie that firmly established Priyadarshan as the 'King Of Comedies'
3) It reaffirmed THE belief that Akshay Kumar-Suneil Shetty combo always spelt magic
4) It is THE movie that proved that Akshay Kumar was much more than just an action hero
5) It is THE movie that made Paresh Rawal the STAR he is today because after 'Hera Pheri' there was no looking back for him

And now there is more enjoyment in store as the deadly trio of Baburao [Paresh Rawal], Raju [Akshay Kumar] and Shyam [Suneil Shetty] are back at what they are best at - LAUGH AT THEMSELVES! Because they are now ready to do 'PHIR HERA PHERI'! Prolific writer Neeraj Vora, who was also the man behind the dialogues and screenplay of 'Hera Pheri' takes over the mantle from Priyadarshan for the sequel while the leading lady Tabu is replaced by Bipasha Basu and Rimmi Sen who has been Priyadarshan's current favorite after 'Hulchul, 'Kyun Ki' and 'Garam Masala'.

Everyone remembers what happened to Baburao, Raju and Shyam when 'Hera Pheri' ended? Well, they became rich; in fact super rich, because they managed to save the daughter of a rich businessman [Kulbhushan Kharbanda] after she was kidnapped by BAD MAN Gulshan Grover!

And what happened to all that money from thereon?

Did Casanova Raju throw it all away due to his philandering ways?
Was Shyam able to repay all his loans and still save some for him and his family?
Did Baburao succeed in sending off all the creditors happy from his doors and furnish his damaged garage?

Did the three lead a simple life or they became greedy for more?

Well, not much is known about others but at least Raju wanted a quick way out to increase his wealth. Each of them did want to invest money at the right place but 'shortcut' Raju had some different plans. After all the man, who never shied away from saying "Main Paise Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Kar Sakta Hoon!", could hardly change!

He had a PLAN. A plan that could double the investment in quick time. And for that they needed some money to get started. So what's the trouble? Well, the trouble is that the combined money of three of them too wasn't anywhere near what was actually wanted on the table!

While simple-at-heart and clean-at-mind Shyam and Baburao didn't really have much clue about how to get started, Raju [as expected] knew how to get out of this tricky situation! The trick was to find two investors who could help them in arranging for money and convince them that this was going to be profitable for everyone involved!

Soon he did find the investors, one of them being none other than Rajpal Yadav. But he has his own troubles as well! How? Because he himself has borrowed money from a 'totla' DON - Sharat Saxena. He stammers, but he kills!

In their quest for more money and wealth, Baburao, Raju and Shyam find themselves to be a part of one more exciting adventure of their life. They do take a risk and now they have to run to to save themselves!

A hilarious show in the offering, the film has Rimmi Sen [Anjali] and Bipasha Basu [Anuradha] as the leading ladies supported by horde of comic actors like Johny Lever, Suresh Menon, Suniel Pal, Tiku Talsania, Javed Khan, Manoj Joshi, Razzak Khan and Dinesh Hingoo. Music of the film is handled by current hot favorite Himesh Reshammiya and Sameer is the lyricist. PHP is slated for a June release.

Asmita Parv Celebrations with Scintillating AAMRAPALI BALLET by JAYAPRADA..."
On Chaitra Shukla Purnima, i.e., the full-moon day of March-April, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated every year all over India, the prominent one being in a small district of Gujarat. A three day function designated "Asmita Parva" was held to celebrate the birth-anniversary of Hanuman, the son of the wind-god Marut and Anjana Devi, with great religious fervour.

The three days function was held under the gracious guidance of Shri Murari Bapu. Born in a non-descript village Talgajarda of Gujarat, this savant has earned the love and reverence of innumerable men and women, transcending the narrow walls of caste, creed and community by his child like simplicity, humility and compassion marking the character of one who is spiritually oriented. Based on the life of Gandhi, the greatest name in modern India, Murari Bapu has created and sang two ballads at 'Dandi' and 'Sabarmati' while the third one is being planned at 'Rajghat'.

Every night was excelled by classical singing and dance by some eminent name from the world of Indian Classical Music. On the first evening, famous classical singer from Patiyala Gharana Pt Ajoy Chakraborty and her daughter Kaushiki Desikan Chakraborty gave their fabulous performance. Only adding to the grace of the first evening the famous Grammy award winner Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt kept his audience spell-bound by his performance on the second day.

Moving ahead with "Asmita" celebrations we had the Rajya Sabha member and renowned dancer Jayaprada performing on the third evening. She received huge applause for her splendid rendering of "Amrapalli Ballet" which was watched by more than 5000 people. The ballet lasted for 2 hours and had the audience with their eyes glued to the stage in a sort of hypnosis.

On 13th of April the recital of special prayers was done by Shri Murari Bapu, who also honored the four figures of legendary fame from the world of Classical Music by giving them each Rs 1.25 Lacs. Those who received these awards were the famous Kathak dancer Pt. Birju Maharaj, the renowned Shehnai player Ustad Bismilla Khan, the famous Tabla Player Pt Kishan Maharaj and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi famous from Kirana Gharana. In the field of music this is, today the highest monetary award ever given to an Indian Artiste. On this occasion Shri Murari Bapu said that no amount of money can evaluate these precious jewels of art and that a person can attain such heights only by perseverance, unwavering dedication towards music and by the grace of god.

He has also sent his good wishes to all the countrymen on this auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

She’s always been a stunner. But now Katrina Kaif is determined to prove that she’s an actress too. At the moment Raj Kanwar’s emotional love story is what’s making those lovely lips smile and those limpid pools swim...

Excerpts from the Interview:

Reportedly, you almost got frostbitten during Humko Dewaana Kar Gaye but continued shooting thereby impressing director Raj Kanwar and your co-star Akshay Kumar with your professionalism and dedication?

Oh, it wasn’t anything as dramatic as frostbite. Canada was cold...freezing cold...and that caused a certain amount of discomfort but I managed. Akshay was very helpful. I’m not in a position yet to rate anyone as an actor but he sure made the environment comfortable for me. As far as professionalism goes, my work is very important to me. There is a lot I have to prove. I have some good films lined up. And I’m giving them all my best shot.

You’ve been working on your Hindi too, we hear?

Yeah, I can read and speak Hindi quite well now and that’s quite an achievement considering I didn’t know the language at all when I came down here.

Humko...is up for release and Bipasha Basu has gone to press cribbing about the fact that her special appearance is being played up in the promos to give the impression that the film is a love triangle.

I don’t know what Bipasha said or why she said what she did at this point. She’s a nice person and I wouldn’t like to comment on her actions but for me once you commit to being a part of a project, you should support it right through its release.
You’re doing Tips’ next with Bipasha too.

Yeah. The film also has Mallika, Fardeen, Anil and Saif. I’m playing a secretary. We haven’t got around to discussing it much but I’m looking forward to working with Abbas-Mastan. They’re great directors.

The buzz is that for the first time since Maine Pyar Kiya Salman and Bhagyashree will be coming together for another very special appearance in Humko....

Where did you get that? It’s not true at all.

Okay, how about the story that Humko...was inspired by a real-life love story that bridged two worlds and triumphed over all odds?

That’s true. But it’s not something that happened with just two people. From all the happily married people you see around you, you know that several others too have savored this kind of love.

How would you define “being in love”?

I believe that when you’re in love the person becomes a part of you. For me love is best explained by something I heard an actress say in a film once when she told her man, “I carry your heart in my heart.” It’s so apt.

We saw you walk the ramp recently for Ritu Beri during the Lakme Fashion Week.

I walk the ramp every year as brand ambassador for Lakme. And I enjoy it.

Salman walked the ramp too this year.

I was away in Chennai at the time so I can’t comment on this.

You’ve been spending a lot of time down South.

Yeah, I did a Telugu film. Shooting in Hyderabad was a wonderful experience. The city, it’s people, are very nice. I’d love to do more films down South but right now I’m so busy with my Hindi films that I just don’t have the time.
How difficult is it speaking the language?

Telugu’s easy, Malayalam is slightly more difficult.

Ah yes, you’ve done a Malayalam film too, with Mammootty in a double role no less. What was the experience like?

Mammootty is a great actor and it was a somewhat daring role...Romantic and at the same time very emotional. I enjoyed it.

And now you’ll be working with another Super M, Mohanlal. Apparently, he plays your father-in-law in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sholay.

Yeah, and I’m looking forward to the experience given the fact that he’s an excellent actor too. There’s so much I can learn from him. We start shooting in September.

Have you seen the original Sholay?

Yes, it’s a classic film. But let me assure you that Ramuji’s Sholay won’t be a scene-by-scene copy. We’ll be reinventing the familiar story.

You’ve been shooting with the Deols recently for Anil Sharma’s Apne. What’s your take on them?

They’re great guys. Dharamji is really sweet. Everytime we had to do a shot together he would reassure me saying, “You’re doing very well. Don’t be nervous.” I love Bobby too. Sunny I’ve met but we haven’t interacted much. Then there is Firoz Nadiadwala’s Welcome. With Anees Bazmee as the director I’m very confident because he’s a very good writer as well and every scene is so entertaining. There’s also David Dhawan’s Partner. I’ve worked with David earlier in Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya and had a very good time. This time I’m more prepared and so enjoying myself much more.

Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya would have been one of the biggest hits of the year had it not been derailed at the onset by the hate campaign against Salman.

Yeah, and I felt really bad about it. But despite everything, the film did good business which says a lot for the film and our audience. Anyway it’s over now and we’re all looking ahead to Partner.

How does it feel to be voted the lady with the most luscious lips in the film industry?

It’s feels funny to hear such things.

Bollywood's leading male actor, Shah Rukh Khan, will play the coach of a girls' field hockey team in a new Hindi film to be

produced later this year.

The film is inspired by the 2002 crossover hit ``Bend It Like Beckham,'' in which the daughter of conservative Sikh parents living

in London rebels against tradition by playing on a soccer team, the New Delhi Television web site said.

``Chak De,'' or ``Go For It,'' as the film is tentatively titled, deals with how Khan's character pushes a mediocre field hockey

team to victory.

Director Shimit Amin is busy with preproduction work, while the casting director is looking for fresh faces for the hockey team.

Auditions team members are over and a few names have been shortlisted, the web site said.

The girls selected for the film will have to undergo intensive two-month field hockey training.

Filmfare Magazine recently named Khan India's favorite and top-earning actor. He has appeared in more than 50 movies,

including the blockbusters, ``Main Hoon Na'' (I'm Here), ``Kal Ho Naa Ho'' (Tomorrow May Never Come), ``Kabhi Khushi Kabhi

Gham'' (Sometimes Happiness, Sometimes Sorrow) and ``Devdas.''

Newly released Bollywood film Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu and Anil

Kapoor, has made it to the coveted UK Top 10 list.

According to industry sources, the gross from its previews and 4-day Easter weekend was 219,981 pounds (approx Rs 1.77

crore).

With this title, UTV, the distributor, gives Akshay Kumar his highest ever solo opening in the UK. The opening of the film was

even bigger than director Raj Kanwar's previous release, Andaaz, which too had fared well in the UK.

The film ranks above western titles such as Hostel, The Pink Panther, Yours, Mine and Ours, The Squid and the Whale and

The Dark, the sources said.

UTV’s new production (untitled) starring Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra seeks to capture the triumphant human spirit

against a backdrop of soccer. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film will be shot entirely in Europe during the 2006 FIFA World

Cup.

Says Ram Mirchandani, vice president, UTV, “The film is definitely happening. It boasts a big cast, which we are in the process

of finalising. We are confident that it’s going to be a trend setting film. It will be the cult film of 2007.”

When quizzed about Khan and Chopra being signed, he says, “We need some more time before zeroing in on the cast. It’s a

little premature to talk about this.”

Talks are on

Priyanka Chopra
However, sources close to the actors confirm the news.

Says Chand Mishra, secretary to the actress, “She has been in talks with UTV for some time now. In fact, she’s keen on doing

the film but has been away in Malaysia as she is shooting for Farhan Akhtar’s Don. Once she is back, we will know the status.

I cannot give you any more details.”

Saif Ali Khan will be seen as a soccer player in the film. With the passage of time, he faces many obstacles involving locker

room politics.

Gradually, he evolves as a better individual. Chopra, inevitably, plays his love interest. The production house intends to hire

premiere league coaches to help the actors get used to the technique and lifestyle of a soccer player.

Is the film based on a real-life soccer legend? Says Mirchandani, “It’s an original and novel idea, which has not been lifted from

anywhere.

Our scriptwriters, Vikram Motwani and Anurag Kashayp, have done an excellent job. Our only inspiration is the hysteria that

football generates across the world.”

Amitabh Bachchan will not perform at the IIFA show to be held in Dubai in June this year.

Bachchan, brand ambassador of the International Indian Film Academy Awards, has said that, in all probability, his health will not permit him to perform a dance show.

At last year's awards in Amsterdam, Bachchan's performance of Kajra Re with son Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai was one of the show's most thrilling moments. Unfortunately, in November 2005, Bachchan had to undergo an intestinal operation and was advised rest after he was discharged from hospital on December 17.

Asked if he would then be riding a bicycle in Dubai like he did in Amsterdam, Bachchan jokingly said, "I won't ride a bicycle this time, but I will surely take a camel ride."

The IIFA Awards will be held for four days from June 14 to June 17. Speaking about the awards, Bachchan further said, "Wherever the awards have been hosted, the flow of Indian tourists to those countries has risen by almost 50 per cent. The same is the case for the popularity of Indian films."

In its 7th year, the Awards were first hosted in Great Britain, followed by twice in South Africa, then Singapore, Malaysia and Amsterdam. "We are organizing IIFA awards for the first time in the Gulf, which is close to our country," said Sabbas Joseph, director of Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, the even management company organising the awards. "Indian film stars love Dubai as a shooting destination. Almost 60 per cent of the population is from South Asian countries and we hope to receive this award very well when it is hosted in June."

Saeed Al Naouba, CEO of Dubai International Film Festival, said, "One third of the expatriate population in Dubai comprises Indians. We feel this award will strengthen the brotherhood between the two countries and we will make this award an unforgettable event."

On the occasion, Sheikh handed a silver dagger (khanjar) as a token gesture to Bachchan. Speaking highly about Dubai, Bachchan later said, "They have built real estate in the ocean. This was unbelievable for me. We knew of such developments in the West, but these things are happening in Dubai today. Every time I go there, I find a new Dubai. It is an incredible place to visit."

International Indian Film Academy will stage glitterati of Bollywood in booming Gulf city state of Dubai.

MUMBAI - The glitterati of Bollywood will descend on Dubai in June for the Indian film industry's equivalent of the Oscars, the organisers announced Wednesday.

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) has staged the extravaganza abroad since 2000 to raise the international profile of its home-grown movie industry.

"The IIFA awards have marked the beginning of a new era for recognising and applauding the achievements of Indian cinema," Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan told reporters.

"I am looking forward to the celebrations in Dubai this year," he said.

The awards have been held twice in South Africa and once each in Singapore, Malaysia, Britain and the Netherlands. This year's version will take place on June 16.

India is the world's biggest film producer with around 1,000 features a year but accounts for only one percent of global film industry revenues.

Mumbai: "Ice Age 2: The Meltdown", which is set to help Indian audiences beat the summer heat, features a potential love interest for the woolly mammoth that propelled the original movie to huge success.

Film star Ray Romano, who lent his voice to Manny the woolly mammoth in the original "Ice Age" and its sequel, said: "I think the audience wants to see what happens to him. And we do in 'Ice Age 2'.

"We see another chapter in his life, you know, not to give it away. But he goes to another place. And, of course, there's a lot of adventure and craziness," Romano said in a statement.

Throwing light on Manny's love interest, Romano said: "There is a potential love interest for Manny in this movie. You know, in 'Ice Age' he was mourning over the loss of his family. And I guess he's been kind of lonely.'"

Manny again teams up with his friends - Sid the sloth and Diego the sabre-toothed tiger - in the sequel.

"It took a while for me to get used to doing this, the performing like this, because you are recording in a studio in front of the microphone, and normally without the other actors there," Romano said.

"So you are bound, you are doing it with the director. And you are trying to assume the timing and anticipate what the other actor will be doing. And you don't see it until you see it at the premiere.

"It's amazing when it all works and it all comes together with the animation and music and the sound and everything, but it took some getting used to for me," he said.

"Ice Age 2" is replete with comedy, action and spectacular visuals. The unyielding friendship between the three heroes lives on with some memorable new characters thrown into the mix.

However, the second part of the film, where director Carlos Saldanha tries to address global warming and other ecological problems, sees the end of the Ice Age.

New cast members include Academy Award-nominee Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, late night talk show host Jay Leno, Will Arnett and Josh Peck.

John Leguizamo and Denis Leary also pitch in for the sequel.

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are currently in Bagalkot, North Karnataka, shooting for Mani Ratnam’s Guru. The area is also the location of historical sites like Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal. Abhishek plays the role of a legendary hero of the 1857 Mutiny.

While they were shooting for the film, the duo also visited the historical monuments. And they were certainly very impressed. Aishwarya was seen wearing a sari and taking in the beauty of her surroundings. It was no easy task for the production team to get permission to shoot in these areas. The Archaeological Survey of India authorities were apprehensive because shooting in the areas would attract a lot of crowds, which could prove to be detrimental for the monuments. However, finally they relented.

The shooting began under tight security. Thousands of people thronged the area to catch a glimpse of the stars. However, they were not able to do so since the police had cordoned off the area. But the crowds were determined and climbed the tops of trees for a dekko! Apart from Ash and Abhishek, Guru also stars Mallika Sherawat. However, she was not present in Bagalkot as she didn’t have any scenes there.

He committed his love to one woman. And fell in love with another.

Pritish Nandy Communications’ first offering for the year is a romance unlike any other. Inspired by the events of his life,

Vikram Bhatt puts to celluloid a film after his own heart, Ankahee.

The truth is that Shekhar (Aftab Shivdasani) was a common man. Happily married to his wife Nandita (Ameesha Patel) of

several years. The relationship was sealed as special by the coming of their child. They were a happy family. Till one day, the

reigning Miss World and Bollywood’s biggest star, Kavya Krishna (Esha Deol), walked into his hospital armed with a slit wrist

and what Shekhar believed to be, true love.

Kavya was beautiful, stunning in fact. She was smart and alive and Shekhar, like the rest of the world, fell in love with her.

Days hurried past as he cleared the rest of his life, his wife, his daughter, his friends, his work to make way for his love.

Nothing was more important than Kavya and his need to be her constant.

Kavya Krishna. The reigning Miss World. The most beautiful woman in the world. Or maybe the most beautiful woman in a

pageant of 60 girls. Bollywood’s biggest upcoming star. Beautiful. Powerful. Successful. Alone. Lonely in a world where she

was the most popular woman. For her Shekhar was the lifeline, she’d always sought. Her anchor. Her man. The only person in

the world who could make her happy. And Kavya wanted, needed, struggled to be happy.

Nandita, of course, was the woman stuck in the middle. Shekhar was her husband. The only man she’d ever loved. And yet,

he’d found it only too easy to walk away. From her. From their home. And from Sheena, their 6 year old daughter.

Ankahee is about the truths that were left unspoken between a man, his wife and his daughter. And the lies that need to be

uncovered.

It is a film about brutal love, deception, betrayal and the desperate loneliness that accompanies all three.

Tulsi, T-Series baron Bhushan Gulshan Kumar's sister, has ventured into playback singing with 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye' and says she always wanted to be a singer.

'Ever since I can remember, music has interested me. Even as a child I would keep humming songs. One day, dad (Gulshan Kumar) heard me and loved my voice. He suggested that I take up singing professionally. I was just six years old then.'

Tulsi started her singing career with devotional songs, reports Bollywood Trade.

'I come from a very religious family and I am a religious person. I first wanted to seek the blessings of god before kick-starting my career. That's why I got into devotional songs.'

In her home production 'Humko Deewana...', she lends her voice to Katrina Kaif in the title song with Himesh Reshammiya.

Excerpts from the Interview:

When did you decide to pursue singing as a career?

Ever since I can remember, music has interested me. Even as a child I would keep humming tunes of songs. One day dad heard me and loved my voice. He suggested that I take up singing professionally. I was just six years old then but I knew I wanted to be a singer. I joined the Suresh Wadkar Academy and now for the last four years, Arvind Jha has been my guide.

How supportive was your family about this decision?

It was my father's dream to see me sing. Even my mother has consistently encouraged me and helped me to remain focused.

You started off with devotional songs. Why the shift to mainstream songs?

I come from a very religious family and I am a religious person. I first wanted to seek the blessings of god before kick-starting my career. That's why I got into devotional songs. I have sung for around six-seven devotional albums.

Also, I have done a lot of remixes and sung numerous cover versions. So I wanted to experience the whole gamut of songs before I actually get into mainstream songs.

Will devotional songs take a back seat?

No, not at all.

Which is the first Hindi film song you recorded for? How was the experience?

The first ever song I recorded for a Hindi film was the title song of 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye'. Anu Malik, who has scored the music for the film, was very patient and made me feel very comfortable. I sang it along with Sonu (Nigam). The song has shaped up really well and is rocking the charts.

Who is your favourite singer?

From the previous lot of singers, I adore Lata Mangeshkar-ji and Asha Bhosle- ji. From the current lot, I really like Sonu Nigam.

Which is your favourite song?

I like all the songs by Lata-ji. But my favourite is 'Chand phir nikla' from the movie 'Paying Guest'.

Any role model?

I look up to my brother. He has worked very hard from a very young age and faced a lot of difficulties. He has inspired me to work hard and make it on my own merit.
