UTV’s new production (untitled) starring Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra seeks to capture the triumphant human spirit

against a backdrop of soccer. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film will be shot entirely in Europe during the 2006 FIFA World

Cup.

Says Ram Mirchandani, vice president, UTV, “The film is definitely happening. It boasts a big cast, which we are in the process

of finalising. We are confident that it’s going to be a trend setting film. It will be the cult film of 2007.”

When quizzed about Khan and Chopra being signed, he says, “We need some more time before zeroing in on the cast. It’s a

little premature to talk about this.”

Talks are on

Priyanka Chopra
However, sources close to the actors confirm the news.

Says Chand Mishra, secretary to the actress, “She has been in talks with UTV for some time now. In fact, she’s keen on doing

the film but has been away in Malaysia as she is shooting for Farhan Akhtar’s Don. Once she is back, we will know the status.

I cannot give you any more details.”

Saif Ali Khan will be seen as a soccer player in the film. With the passage of time, he faces many obstacles involving locker

room politics.

Gradually, he evolves as a better individual. Chopra, inevitably, plays his love interest. The production house intends to hire

premiere league coaches to help the actors get used to the technique and lifestyle of a soccer player.

Is the film based on a real-life soccer legend? Says Mirchandani, “It’s an original and novel idea, which has not been lifted from

anywhere.

Our scriptwriters, Vikram Motwani and Anurag Kashayp, have done an excellent job. Our only inspiration is the hysteria that

football generates across the world.”
